Life Liquidation

Well, just to get everyone up to speed, I am selling my life, and moving to Australia. Maybe not MOoving moving, but I did sell everything I own (my guitar, various boards, clothes and my car amongst other things) and bought a one-way ticket. Needless to say, the last few weeks have been interesting.

I am still trying to figure out whether I have crossed the proverbial line between freedom and insanity, but for the meantime, everything seems to be going as planned. But I did have my doubts...

I've had most everything (including my car) on a for-sale website for nearly a month, and didn't sell a damn thing. I mean, not-a-one thing. I've been a bit stressed the past week trying to figure out how to find homes for my material life whilst adding to my travel fund. When Friday came around and I was still staring at my "things" wondering how the hell I was going to pull this one off, I had a brilliant idea...A YARD SALE! Why didn't I think of that sooner?

So I gathered everything, threw up some signs, offered up some Sunday morning mimosas and had a bunch of friends over to enjoy one of the nicest days of 2008 on my front lawn amongst anything and everything I could find to sell. The coolest part was that most of my things were bought by friends! My surfboard, snowboard and sewing machine (sorry mom) all went to my very close friends, so they're still in the family. The one thing that didn't sell---you guessed it, my car. So now what? Operation, sell car now!

I went by Car-Max (a buy/sell your car cheap business) and got a quote. Looks like I'll only be able to get about $1200 for the Jetta, which is a serious bummer, but hey, what are you gonna do. I gotta get rid of it! I can't take it with me. So tomorrow, someone will be by to give me a check and drive off with her. She'll probably go to an auction, and someone will get a screamin' deal. She's been a good car. Cross country twice, through the mountains of Lake Tahoe with chains on during 3 foot snowstorms, and let's not forget all the wear and tear of college, camping trips and multiple visits to the mechanic (damn that check-engine light).

I'm off on my journey tomorrow which begins in Lake Tahoe. I will be there until the 20th getting some last minute shredding in with my friends and maybe a stop at a hotspring or two, and then it's off to Australia...

Have I lost it?

I sure will miss the amazing times that I had here in San Diego over the past 9 months. I've made friends that will last a lifetime, and memories that will live on with legendary status until I really do lose my mine. Life is short.
